2011 Concerts

There were three concerts in 2011 season. On May 28th May the Royal College of Music Strings, under their conductor Mark Messenger, performed a concert of English music in the first half. This included the rarely performed Concerto Grosso  by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The advanced string players from both of the town’s secondary schools performed with them. The result was astounding as the rich string texture was complimented by the church’s good acoustic, The RCM Strings also performed  Barber’s Adagio and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.

The second concert on the 3rd of June featured Philip Higham and Simon Lane in a concert of mainly French music. Philip, with his formidable technique, is undoubtedly the finest British cellist of his generation. It was concert to remember,

The final concert was on the 4th of June and saw the return of the Brodowski Quartet, who performed in the very first WCC concert in 2008. They included the rarely performed chamber version of Mozart’s Piano Concerto K414 arranged by the composer.
